Truong Thi May, a Vietnamese model who represented the country at the Miss Universe pageant in 2013, has been named Asia’s Sexiest Vegetarian by the NGO People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).
The ranking was part of the organization’s “Pledge to Be Veg for 30 Days” campaign which calls on celebrities to help bring awareness to animal rights in the Asia Pacific region and urges people sign a pledge on their website and go vegetarian for 30 days.
"Being a vegetarian helps me to avoid cholesterol; my hair and skin are a lot healthier, and I feel younger. It also teaches me compassion toward animals by not killing them for food," said May, who is a Buddhist.
Chinese actor Wu Xiubo took home the honor in the men’s category.
Other Vietnamese celebrities involved in the campaign included Viet Trinh and Vo Ha Tram in the women’s category and Dai Nghia, Thanh Bach and Ha Okia in the men’s.
If you’re gonna go vegetarian, Vietnam seems like one of the best places to do it given the country’s large number of delicious chay dishes and restaurants.
