Under a 2006 decision from the Ministry of Defense, foreign military uniforms are considered contraband and it is illegal to bring them into the country. Though further details regarding the case have not been released, the Ministry of Public Security has launched an investigation into the incident in conjunction with airport customs officials.

Particularly ahead of the September 2 national holiday, authorities are taking extra precautions to prevent the illegal shipment of weapons and military equipment into the country by air.

Late last month, Tan Son Nhat officials uncovered a stash of 94 military handguns and 472 magazines on a flight from Turkey, Saigon's first-ever large-scale weapon smuggling case. While inspectors noted that the firearms likely came from the Czech Republic, little additional information was provided.

Both cases are under investigation at this time.
