Homemade Bomb Kills One, Injures Three In Hanoi

An explosion rocked Hanoi's Dong Da District last Friday evening when a homemade bomb went off inside a four-storey house.

The blast occurred at 6:50pm, drawing residents of Thong Phong alley out of their homes to see what had happened, according to Thanh Nien.

While the owner of the house, Pham Gia Hai, was not there, his parents and younger sister, Pham Thi Phuong, were inside the house. Phuong, who was cooking at the time of the explosion, sustained multiple injuries and was rushed to Xanh Pon Hospital. She is now in stable condition.

The blast also claimed the life of Nguyen Dong Dang, a 60-year-old man who was passing by the house when the bomb detonated. Several other passersby sustained minor injuries, including Nguyen Anh Lam, 19.

“I just passed that house when suddenly I was thrown off my bike after a big explosion,” he told Thanh Nien. “It was chaotic, smoke was everywhere. My clothes were torn off.”

Authorities believe the bomb was an act of revenge and are still investigating the incident.
