Hanoi Is Getting a New Cemetery-Park Complex

Following its approval in 2016, Hanoi will move ahead with a joint cemetery and park project in the capital’s Ha Dong and Nam Tu Liem Districts.

According to Tuoi Tre, the 9.5-hectare project is a renovation of the current cemetery in Ha Dong’s Van Phuc Ward with the aim of expanding the space into La Khe Ward and Nam Tu Liem’s Dai Mo Ward. Once complete, the new cemetery’s facilities will include more space for cremation and mortuary services, an office and parking to meet a demand for “modern” funeral services in the capital, reports Vietnam News.

Beyond the cemetery, the planned park will serve as an area for outdoor recreation, separated from the former by an artificial hill and a line of trees. Cultural and entertainment activities will take place in the new green space.

According to Vietnam News, the park-cemetery project is part of an effort to improve cemetery services in Hanoi and incorporate such space into the city’s urban planning as city officials look ahead to 2030.
