Well this is a sad story. Yesterday morning, six employees of the IDI Fisheries Factory in Binh Thanh Commun, Dong Thap Province suffocated from catfish oil fumes while taking samples.
After numerous colleagues did not return from routine testing, one by one, employees, including the director and vice director also suffocated and fell into the tank.
By the time workers broke open the tank, factory director Mai Huu Ton, 31, deputy director Trieu Ba Tra, 39, Lam Thanh Phong, 35, Tran Tan Loi, 27, Le Dinh Thai, 27 and Le Xuan Thuan, 20 had all died.
Local authorities have given VND3 million to each family while the IDI promised to provide VND100 million for each burial.
Workplace accidents are becoming increasingly common in Vietnam. According to the Department of Employment and Labor Safety, around 6,800 workplace accidents in 2012 across the country killed 606 people and injured 1,470 workers, with additional damage to property amounting to VND11 billion (US$528,000)
