While they may pale in comparison to Ireland’s beautiful natural basalt formations, their Vietnamese cousins, just north of Nha Trang are just a bus or a bike ride away.
Located in Phu Yen Province, the Cliffs of Stone Plates (Ghềnh Đá Đĩa), boast a collection of interlocking basalt columns, a result of an ancient volcanic eruption. This geological event created molten basalt flows which, when cooled, formed these rare polygonal columns.
The beauty of these formations have even been attributed to gods who brought them along to their beach parties, and left them behind when they flew back to heaven.
I prefer the gods explanation.
