Outside of Burger King and Popeye’s, most of the food sold at Tan Son Nhat Airport is provided by one of two companies Autogrill VFS or Song Viet, both of which think that their prices are fair. But the head of the Southern Airport Authority (SAA) disagrees and has ordered the vendors to reduce the prices of their food.
According to DTI News, At a recent meeting with these companies, Tran Thuy Minh from the SAA said that companies must reduce the prices of “essential” foods such as noodles and rice.
He added that a bottle of water cannot be sold for more than VND20,000 and that the price of soup must be lowered to VND55,000 from its current price of VND89,000.
Autogrill VFS or Song Viet defended their pricing model, saying that prices are inline with their rent which is $60/sqm in the international terminal and $34/sqm in the domestic.
For years, passengers have been complaining about the prices and quality of food at the airport. Call me optimistic but perhaps this is a first step to addressing these shortcomings. But probably not.
