Back Travel » You’ll Soon Be Able to Play Slot Machines at Vietnam’s Airports

In what may be a push to compensate for poor mixed airport rankings earlier this year, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved a proposal that will allow Vietnam’s international airports to install slot machines to entertain waiting passengers.

The timing for such a move is curious given that the country is still considering whether or not locals should be able to gamble. Though the government seems set on legalizing gambling for (certain) Vietnamese citizens - particularly due to the fact that Vietnamese are the main contributors to the US$250 million in annual revenue generated at Cambodian casinos, according to Thanh Nien - such legislation is still being debated in Hanoi.

According to the Vietnam Economic Times, slot machines will be installed in “isolated areas” and will only be open to foreigners.

There’s no set date for the installation of the machines that will only be present at Vietnam’s five international airports: Tan Son Nhat, Noi Bai, Da Nang, Cam Ranh and Phu Quoc.

Either way, Beavis and Butthead would be stoked.
