Officials: Bodies Recovered In Search For AirAsia Flight QZ8501

After three days of searching for AirAsia Flight QZ8501, The Indonesian Navy has announced that 40 bodies have been found in the Java Sea off the Indonesian part of Borneo, reports the The Jakarta Globe

Aviation authorities lost contact with the Airbus A320-200, which was flying from the Indonesian city of Surabaya to Singapore on the morning of December 28.

The flight "was requesting deviation due to en route weather before communication with the aircraft was lost," the Malaysian-owned airline said in a statement on Sunday.

Of the 162 passengers and crew, 156 were Indonesian, three were South Korean, one was French, one was Malaysian and one was Singaporean.

The incident marks a disastrous year for SE Asian aviation companies, starting with Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 which went missing on March 8 on a trip from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, followed by Flight MH17 which was shot down over Ukraine on July 17.
