In Vietnam, annually, an estimated 8-10 out of 1,000 live births result in children with congenital heart diseases (CHD), totaling around 16,000 cases. However, only half of these children require treatment in cardiovascular hospitals. Disturbingly, 25% of infants born with complex CHD do not survive their first year without corrective surgery.

Given that the majority of people live in rural areas, timely surgical intervention is often unattainable. Consequently, affected children endure a diminished quality of life, experiencing insufficient mental and physical development. Many cases go undiagnosed, and a significant number of children perish while awaiting assistance. Without treatment, a staggering 85% of these children will not survive to adulthood.

The Rotary Club Saigon International (Vietnam) and Rotary Club of Jeju Seobu, District 3662 (South Korea) have joined forces to collaborate on a fundraising initiative aimed at covering the surgical expenses for 20 children with congenital heart diseases (CHD). The selection of patients for this initiative will be undertaken by Heartbeat Vietnam, a specialized program dedicated to pediatric heart disease, managed by the VinaCapital Foundation. Upon the hospital's completion of each case and the issuance of fee notifications, the financial support will be disbursed.

The primary objective of our project is to extend financial assistance to families with children affected by CHD, with the overarching goal of facilitating their return to a normal, healthy life. This support encompasses the coverage of surgical costs for the identified cases.

“This is not the 1st Global Grant achieved from our project team. In 2024, we have successfully raised 87,000 USD to help more than 70 children. With many meaningful projects, Rotary Club Saigon International and its team members are extremely active with the mission of paying it forward.”
