Yesterday at 3:55pm, a Vietnam Airlines Airbus A330, arriving from Melbourne, landed at Ton San Nhat International airport. Soon after, smoke was observed coming from its no. 2 engine.

The crew quickly started emergency procedures and, with the help emergency crews, was able to evacuate the 166 passengers and 13 crew safely. The fire was quickly extinguished by airport firefighters.

The plane, manufactured in 2008, had its last regular maintenance check on May 20, 2012. Investigators are now trying to determine the source of the malfunction.

This is not the first time a VNA flight has had this problem - In July 2008, a VNA 777 experienced similar troubles when landing at Tokyo’s Narita Airport.

I guess we’ll be taking Jetst…never mind.
