Back Arts & Culture » [Illustrations] Osaka Illustrator Turns Hometown Into Manga Backdrop With Quirky Sketches

An Osaka-based illustrator turns his hometown into detailed ballpoint sketches that could pass for the backdrop of a manga series.

Yukihiro Tada is an eclectic artist who has done book covers and music videos apart from the usual cartoons. However, some of his most intricate works are the ballpoint sketches he did while walking around Osaka, where he currently lives. According to Spoon & Tamago, Tada’s drawings usually include a cartoon version of himself.

The subject matter for this work is scenes commonly seen in Japam - shopping streets, train stations and old houses. However, under Tada’s rendition, these normal urban landscapes take on a whimsical quality. See more of his portfolio on Behance.
