BackArts & Culture » Film & TV » 'Skull Island' Begins Filming in Ninh Binh, 'Fast & Furious 8' May Be Next

If you're a Hollywood filmmaker, it appears Ninh Binh is the place to be these days.

Along with director Jordan Charles Vogt-Roberts, actors from the upcoming flick King Kong: Skull Island are arriving in the northern province today to begin a month-long film shoot for the blockbuster, reports Zing.

The team of 120 cast and crew includes actors Samuel L. Jackson, Brie Larson and John Goodman and will shoot in Van Long, Ninh Binh as well as Son Doong Cave and Ha Long Bay.

Once Skull Island is complete, northern Vietnam may see another wave of American film stars. Just when you thought there couldn't possibly be another installment of the neverending Fast & the Furious series, Zing claims an anonymous source has confirmed the franchise's latest flick, Fast 8, will also film a few scenes in Ninh Binh. According to the news report, a high-speed road in the northern province is receiving an upgrade ahead of the filming.

Though the country's Cinema Department denies any knowledge of the project, Zing maintains its source's claim is true. Fast 8 will be directed by Straight Outta Compton director F. Gary Gray and stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Vin Diesel, Jason Statham and Kurt Russell. The film is expected to start filming this summer for an April 2017 release date. Fast 8 will also shoot in New York City and is considering locations in Cuba and Iceland as well.
