A Saigon-based architecture firm has transformed a small plot in Go Vap District into an enviable townhouse.

According to ArchDaily, the Torn Paper House, designed by NatureArch Studio, is located in a residential neighborhood with strict requirements on building height. Still, the design features enough space to accomodate two generations of family in an apartment, in addition to providing separate space for leasing.

The home is divided into two parts. The lower section is for lease and features a ground floor and mezzanine, along with a small garden. While the space is designed for an office, it can be remodeled into a private room, the architecture site reports.

The house's upper section has a separate entrance, creating a private residential area. The two-floor apartment includes bedrooms on the first floor and an open living space with a skylight above. An attic space is enclosed by two L-shaped sliding glass roofs. The interior design is minimalist, using sophisticated but inexpensive materials in order to keep costs down.

The design creates balance between usability, economy and aesthetics while also expressing the idea of the house eagerly escaping from the cramped neighborhood it is located in. The exterior design is modeled after paper-crafting art, which is familiar to primary school students in Vietnam, ArchDaily shares.
