Mr. Hiroyuki Unemori founded his practice, Unemori Architects, in 2009. Their flexible approaches have resulted in a prolific body of work that remarkably showcases their scalar sensitivity, ranging from small urban houses as little as 50 m2 to expansive projects exceeding 10,000 m2.

During the talk show, Unemori will outline his practice’s methodology, which is an insightful interpretation of the three pillars: Scale, environment, and structure.

• The juxtaposition between smallness and spaciousness: Unemori’s approach cleverly redefines urban spatial constraints by creating a sense of openness. The flexible spaces give back the agency to the occupants, allowing them to freely reconfigure and adapt the spaces in dialogue with the changing climate and mind.
• Delicate interaction with nature: Unemori’s works are masterfully embedded in the evolving environments. Instead of limiting and alienating the inhabitants from the outside, his architecture awakens its users’ sensitivity to light, wind, topography, and subtle seasonal transformations.
• Dynamic structural experimentation: To achieve a sense of lightness and flexibility within the urban landscape, the practice actively explores innovative structural strategies. The application of extensive cantilevered floors or suspended structures does more than just technical functionality; it creates a seamless spatial continuity while resulting in a refined, modern architectural expressiveness.
