Established in 1869, the Saigon Zoo (Thảo Cầm Viên) is the 8th oldest in the world.
The zoo and botanical gardens were commissioned by Admiral Pierre de la Grandière, Commander of French forces in Cochinchina in 1864 and is home to hundreds of mammals, birds and rare plants.
Continually functioned for 150 years, the zoo remains a popular weekend destination for local families to enjoy a rare open green space where they can escape the traffic and noise of the city.
