The Saigon Players are a non-profit community theater group who aim to uphold the arts while giving to charity. All the proceeds from their performances go towards a charity that the members personally choose.
This November, they are celebrating their 10th Anniversary and are presenting two shows: a Rocky Horror Picture Show Madness Screening and a cabaret-style presentation of comedy sketches called, “The Life Cycle of Saigon.”
Still in limited release nearly four decades after its premiere, the Rocky Horror Picture Show gained notoriety as a midnight movie in 1977 when audiences began participating with the film in theatres. The film has a large international cult following and is one of the most well-known and financially successful midnight movies of all time. In 2005, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."
In addition to the screening, the troope will perform “The Life Cycle of Saigon” is their cabaret style- comedy sketch show about the life blood of HCMC- the ubiquitous motorbike! Multi-talented xe-om drivers, unflappable police officers, poseur bikers, competitive delivery guys, women motorbike riders in high heels, the latest in helmet fashion, dreaded traffic jams and even singing and dancing in the street.
Following the screenings, event-goers can party it up and enjoy tunes from DJs on Nov. 1 and a live performance by local band Taste's Like Chicken on Nov. 2.
Tickets: 250,000 VND (includes 1 free drink and finger food). Proceeds will go to Saigon Helmet Awareness and Helping Hand Saigon.
