New Hoi An Music Residency Opens Call for Applicants

Following a pilot initiative at Hanoi’s Phu Sa Lab this January, British Council is now looking for up to 10 Vietnam-based contemporary musicians to take part in a new FAMLAB music residency program in Hoi An in June.

The residency forms part of FAMLAB’s ongoing Heritage of Future Past project and is organized in conjunction with Lune Production and Phu Sa Lab — including music director Nguyen Nhat Ly and members of the SEAPHONY Orchestra. These participants allow the collaboration to include in-depth musical exchanges on indigenous forms of Vietnamese music.

Featuring musicians and artists from across Vietnam and Scotland — with musicians from Phu Sa Lab in artistic advisor and coordinator roles — the intensive 20-day program revolves around three sound worlds associated with the country’s Northwest, Central Highlands and South Central regions, and culminates in an outdoor concert showcasing newly developed works.

Those interested in applying must show an interest in traditional Vietnamese music from the aforementioned regions and be capable performers. The residency will take place June 6–25, with a concluding public concert taking place on June 25 at Hoi An’s Dong Hiep Cultural Park.

The deadline for submissions is April 19, 2019. Applicants should send a CV and a short video. For more information or to apply, see the British Council’s website
