New Monopoly Set Takes You Back To Early 1900s Hanoi

The team that brought you 1880 Saigon Monopoly is back with a new edition of the game that seeks to capture the character of turn of the twentieth century Hanoi.

Like the Saigon version, inspiration for the Hanoi-focused board game came from a love of Vietnamese urban history.

Since the creators live in Saigon, coming up with photos and text for the property, community chest and chance cards was quite an undertaking that took some serious research and a bit of help from Saigoneer’s resident historian, Tim Doling.

"Luckily Tim Doling saved the day and introduced us to a Hanoi author/historian [who helped us] put our streets together. We chose to call it “1900s Hanoi Monopoly” as a lot of the photos and streets we used reflect this period."

According to the text on the box, the game allows for some fun-filled time travel.

"Take a trip back in time to early 1900s Hanoi and immerse yourself in the exotic surroundings of “The Paris of the East”. Claim your stake in this thriving city by buying and trading properties. Erect elegant buildings that will stand the test of time and see if you have what it takes to become the “Real Estate King” of Old Hanoi. But beware, in the thrilling race for power and glory, only one will emerge victorious. Only one will survive the rise and fall of the property barons."

The game is available in English or French, at a cost of VND750,000 per set (order before August 21 to get it for VND700,000). To order your set, email: 1900shanoimonopoly@gmail.com
