Botanical artist Duy Anh Nhan Duc picked a rare medium to express his emotions while honoring for the plant kingdom: dandelions.

In a new solo exhibition in Paris, the self-taught artist uses dandelion blowballs – the period in the lifecycle of the plant when it grows grey achenes, the seed-tipped parachutes that allow for reproduction.

Duc employs the monochromatic matter to create detailed artwork from individual achenes to compose his patterns.

According to the artist’s Vimeo page, Duc’s aim for his work is to “show nature in all its fragility”.

He added: “The inspiration that he draws from the observation of plants, he transposes in a very personal narrative, carried by a philosophy where every plant, every name, every sculpture becomes a source of reminiscence loaded with emotions.”

You can see Duc’s work and process in the photos and video below. His solo exhibition, The Imaginary Herbarium, is currently on view at Paris' Galerie Bettina through February 15, 2017.
