While some Saigoneers are probably still recovering from the opening of Vietnam's first Uniqlo last month, they'll now need to ready their wallets for the arrival of another popular Japanese retailer.
Zing reports that Muji, a chain which sells clothing, stationery, homewares and other goods, will enter Vietnam within the next two months.
Tu Thi Hong An, director of commercial leasing at the real estate services company Savills, told the news source that Muji's first store will cover 3,900 square meters. In comparison, the Uniqlo inside Parkson Dong Khoi spans 3,100 square meters.
While no location has been announced, it is safe to assume that the store will be in Saigon. Last February, Muji's parent company established its Vietnam subsidiary in the city, and said its initial location would be in the commercial center. Muji currently operates 928 stores around the world.
An, of Savills, also shared with Zing that a number of other international brands are expected to debut in Vietnam this year.
These include Din Tai Fung, the Taiwanese dim sum chain; Hawker Chan, the Michelin-star chicken rice stall from Singapore; the make-up chain Sephora; and JD, China's largest retailer.
Last year, Saigon's retail space grew to 1.46 million square meters, mostly in Districts 1, 2 and 7, as well as Tan Phu. Revenue in the sector also expanded by 14% compared to 2018.
