Two dog thieves were severely beaten by a crowd after being caught red-handed in Dong Nai province late last week.
Tuoi Tre reports that on Friday morning, residents of Phuoc Tan Commune spotted two suspicious men on a motorbike and followed them. The men stopped in front of a house and shot a dog with a home-made taser, after which a crowd surrounded the pair and beat them.
By the time the police arrived, the two men were lying on the ground with severe injuries and their motorbike had been burned to a shell. The bodies of six dogs were found nearby.
According to the news source, one of the men sustained a broken right arm and leg during the beating, as well as a fractured skull. The other ended up with soft tissue wounds.
Dog theft is a common problem in Vietnam, where an estimated five million canines are killed for food every year, Tuoi Tre shares. These actions can result in extreme violence, and a number of thieves have been viciously beaten and even killed when caught by members of the public in recent years.
