Dog Thief Beaten to Death by Angry Mob

Police stated the dogs had either been poisoned or electrocuted the day before, according to Thanh Nien.

Nguyen Van Minh told police he bought the dogs from thieves for VND3.9 million (US$180) to sell at his restaurant in Thu Dau Mot, the capital of Binh Duong. Further, he admitted to buying another 13 dogs for VND4.1 million (US$189) last week.

This isn’t the first time Minh has been caught stealing dogs but is the first time he’s been charged.

With the penalty for dog theft so low and perpetrators being let off with a mere slap on the wrist, citizens have resorted to vigilante justice and there are numerous instances of dog thieves being beaten to death over the past few years.
