Starting next month, all Hoi An government officials will ride their bikes to work, reported Tuoi Tre. The program, organized by the Hoi An City Party Committee’s secretary Nguyen Su, seeks to reduce the city’s carbon footprint.
The program which will go into effect on March 15 ties in to the city’s popular, 10-year-old program of reducing motorized traffic on its streets.
While we’ll probably never see a similar scheme in Saigon, expect to see public bikes on city streets soon - earlier this month, plans for bike-sharing pilot programs in 5 Vietnamese cities beginning in 2015 were announced.
