Authorities in the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap have arrested a local teacher for allegedly throwing acid on 4 co-workers, leaving them with serious burns, according to Thanh Nien.
The suspected attacker, Pham Minh Tien was (it’s safe to assume that his employment has been terminated) a teacher with Tan Phu Junior High School who had a long history of “wrong doings” in the past.
Initial reports suggested that last Friday, Tien arrived at the district’s education division office with a container full of acid.
After allegedly attacking 4 education officials, he ran out of the office where he was detained by local police.
The victims were sent to Dong Thap Province’s General Hospital but, due to the severity of their burns, were transferred to Cho Ray Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City for treatment.
According to police, Tien admitted that the terrible act was a result of personal conflicts.
Sadly, acid attacks are not uncommon in Vietnam. Last November an HCMC man threw acid on a woman who rejected his love and last August, a Nam Dinh City man attacked a family of 5 when he was told to stop flirting with a 10-year-old girl.
