In a nightmarish scenario, a Russian tourist was attacked by an unknown fish in waters off Nha Trang Sunday morning and remains in critical, reports Tuoi Tre.

Kalinina Oxana, 44, was swimming off of Nha Trang’s Hon Chong beach on Sunday morning when she was attacked by a ferocious and still unidentified fish.

After being rushed to Khanh Hoa General Hospital, doctors found a 39mm object piecing a vertebra in her neck, leaving her left arm and right leg temporarily paralyzed.

Oxana underwent semi-elective surgery on Tuesday evening and doctors found many “saw-shaped” fish bones deep inside her backbone. After 7.5 hours of surgery, the bones were removed and the patient regained consciousness.

While the surgery was successful, doctors say she will need to undergo further procedures before she is in stable condition.

The fish bones and teeth have been sent to the Nha Trang Institute of Oceanography for identification.

Fish researchers told the paper that a case like this hasn’t been reported in Nha Trang for decades.

After this news, this is how we feel about swimming in the ocean right now.
