Yesterday a plethora of new laws dealing with everything from helmet standards to property administration went into effect.
Here’s a quick rundown of the new regulations, courtesy of VNExpress:
Vietnam is set to privatize its fire departments to raise standards and qualifications of firefighters. With this change, residents can now pick and choose their fire department(s).
All issues pertaining to property rights and land possession will be overseen by the Department of Resources and Environment instead of multiple agencies. In addition, compensation for those who have been evicted from their land will be processed within 1 day.
Wearing an unqualified helmet or wearing one incorrectly can result in fines of VND100,000 to VND200,000. As for the unqualified helmets which flood the Vietnamese market, those who wear them will receive a stern talking to but no financial penalty. However, those who manufacture or sell them will be subject to fines of various amounts (these figures have yet to be released).
Some of the smaller changes deal with worker’s annual leave and more restrictions and penalties for businesses bidding on projects.
