On Tuesday, a Chinese man was caught stealing $5,000 from 2 Japanese passengers on a Vietnam Airlines flight from Jakarta to HCMC, reports Tuoi Tre.
The latest of over a dozen in-flight thefts by Chinese passengers since the start of the year was masterminded by 44-year-old Xu Haisheng according to Vietnam Airlines.
A Vietnamese passenger observed Xu opening an overhead compartment and removing a stack of banknotes before returning to his seat.

The act was reported to a flight attendant, and when the plane landed at Tan Son Nhat, the caper was quickly uncovered as the cash dropped from Xu’s suitcase.
Xu was detained at the airport and security officials said that the man would pay a fine and be deported.
According to Vietnam Airlines, this is the 13th in-flight theft this year, all of which were perpetrated by Chinese.
