Repairs to the broken Asia-America Gateway (AAG) cable have been completed, according to Thanh Nien.
On July 15, VHost reported that the AAG cable encountered an undisclosed problem 18km off the coast of Vung Tau, causing service interruptions for users in Vietnam.
The disruption slowed connection speeds between Vietnam and websites hosted in the U.S., Japan, Hong Kong, Korea and Europe. Transmission within Vietnam remained normal.
Nguyen Van Khoa, general director of FPT Telecom said that the cable was reconnected, welded and reburied by 2pm Sunday adding that tests found that the internet links between Vietnam and overseas were operating at normal speeds.
After the latest outage, companies that rely on international connections are diversifying their options by investing in other underwater cables.
