Vietnamese designer, Võ Việt Chung, will present his modern áo dài collection at Couture Fashion Week New York on September 6.
The show will take place at the Crown Plaza in Manhattan’s Times Square where Chung "will showcase 30 designs featuring the beauty of Cochinchina," according to Vietnam News.
After successful shows in Germany, Malaysia and the U.K, he was invited by Andres Aquino, founder and producer of the event to showcase his work along side the collections of the world’s top haute couture designers.
Chung’s collection was first shown in Vietnam last year, making use of the traditional material, mac nua.
"The material has been used for a long time. It is nylon dyed with mac nua seeds," said the designer. "The satin look-alike material is medium thick and suitable for impressive block designing," said Chung, explaining why he used the material for his haute couture.
Chung’s designs incorporate elements from Northern, Central and Southern traditional Vietnamese fashion and the collection is paired with about 20,000 two-year old serial pearls, worth over VND10 billion.
Looks like the áo dài has reached high-fashion status.
