Saigon to See Solar Eclipse on March 9

Saigon residents will be able to see the first solar eclipse of 2016 on Wednesday, March 9.

The eclipse will be visible from 6:35am to 8:41am, reaching a climax at 7:34am. While several Indonesian islands will experience a full eclipse, Vietnam will only see a partial one, according to Thanh Nien.

In Vietnam, the eclipse will be more visible in Saigon and the surrounding area than up north. According to Dang Vu Hoang Son, chairman of the Vietnam Astronomy and Cosmology Association, the eclipse rate will be roughly 80% in Ho Chi Minh City and just 20% in Hanoi.

This is one of four predicted eclipses to occur in 2016, according to NASA, along with two lunar eclipses and one additional solar eclipse.
