Vietnam’s Internet Breaks Again But What Else Is New

In case the swirling rainbow wheel of doom hasn’t clued you in just yet, another one of Vietnam’s four internet cables is under repair this week.

Less than two weeks after the Asia-America Gateway (AAG) cable underwent routine maintenance, engineers began repairs to a rupture on the Intra Asia (IA) cable last Friday, reports Tuoi Tre.

According to CMC Telecom, this maintenance will be complete by 7am on July 24. Users of the mobile service provider Viettel have been particularly affected by the cable’s damage. The 6,800-kilometer IA cable was launched in late 2009 and connects Vietnam with Singapore, the Philippines, Hong Kong and Japan.
