A total of 22 companies listed in Vietnam achieved post-tax profits of over VND1 trillion last year.
VietNamNet reports that 3% of total listed businesses reached the lofty mark, which equates to US$45 million.
Vinamilk, Vietnam's leading dairy producer, topped the list with net profits of VND9.4 trillion, a 21% increase over the previous year. Hoa Phat, a major steel manufacturer, also performed well, amassing VND6.6 trillion in net profits, doubling their target for 2016, according to the news source.
Several large banks also made the list, including Vietinbank, Vietcombank, BIDV, Military Bank and the Asian Commercial Bank.
Meanwhile, several companies that Saigoneers may be familiar with also hit the VND1 trillion mark for the first time. Sabeco, the brewer of Saigon Beer, reported post-tax profits of VND4.5 trillion, the news site shares.
Novaland, Hoa Sen, Coteccons and the Refrigeration Engineering Enterprise, all of which are involved in construction, manufacturing, or real estate, were newcomers to the ranking as well. In particular, Novaland saw a growth rate of 274% during the fiscal year.
In related news, credit rating firm Vietnam Report recently surveyed 500 of the country's largest businesses and found that 81% are optimistic about the economy in 2017.
