Flights in SE Asia are pretty cheap as it is on budget carriers, but next year AirAisa is planning to turn the region’s air travel market on its head with it’s $148 ASEAN Pass.
The pass will be sold starting from January 15 and will allow travelers unlimited flying privileges to 10 SE Asian destinations for one month, according to the Associated Press.
The airline is seeking to make the pass a “catalyst” for increasing their market share in the region while piggyback on the success of JetBlue's famous All-You-Can-Jet and Azul's all-Brazil Pasaporte.
More details on the pass will be available closer to the program’s launch date.
The offer comes on the heals of an poor earnings report from the airline which found that higher operating and finance costs had resulted in an 85% fall in net profit to 5.4 million ringgit ($1.6 million) for the quarter through September.
We’re no experts in the economics of air travel, but it’s hard to imagine that the ASEAN Pass will net the company a profit.
