Back Arts & Culture » Film & TV » Spike Lee Starts Filming Next Movie 'Da 5 Bloods' in Vietnam, Thailand

Da 5 Bloods follows four African-American Vietnam veterans as they return to Vietnam to find their squad leader's remains and pursue the possibility of a buried treasure.

According to Variety, the film is backed by Netflix and stars Delroy Lindo, Clarke Peters, Norm Lewis and Isaiah Whitlock Jr. as the four Vietnam veterans while Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman will play their fallen leader.

Spike Lee, who recently received his overdue first-ever Academy award for BlacKkKlansman, and his BlacKkKlansman collaborator Kevin Willmot wrote the script from an original screenplay by Danny Bilson, Paul DeMeo and Matthew Billingsly.

Production started in March as Lee's Oscar campaigning for BlacKkKlansman finishes. According to his Instagram feed, the director and his crew have already traveled to Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Saigon for location scouting, production, gazing at Vietnam's revolutionary posters and taking pictures with Vietnamese people in Brooklyn T-shirts.

According to Lee's informal announcement video on Instagram, Da 5 Bloodsfirst day of filming started in Chiang Mai, Thailand on March 26. The film marks Lee's fourth collaboration with streaming giant Netflix.
