Earlier this week, Vietnam declared a two-day state funeral for late President Tran Dai Quang.
As reported last week, President Quang passed away in the morning of Friday, September 21, 2018 due to a serious illness. He was 61 years old. At the moment, per Vietnamese law, Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh has been appointed acting president, making Thinh Vietnam’s first-ever female president.
The state funeral will take place on Wednesday and Thursday this week, and a number of major streets in the capital will be closed for the occasion.
Mourners will be able to pay their respects to Quang in the National Funeral Home at 5 Tran Thanh Tong Street, and all vehicles will be banned on this road on both September 26 and 27.
During the state funeral, many roads in the capital will be closed to traffic, including Tang Bat Ho, Tran Thanh Tong, Nguyen Huy Tu, Han Thuyen and the section on Nguyen Cong Tru between Tran Thanh Tong and Lo Duc, VnExpress reports. Restrictions on large trucks and buses will also apply.
During the funeral, government offices and public places will fly the national flag at half-mast. Moreover, public leisure activities will not take place during the mourning period.
A memorial service will start at 7:30am on Thursday. Quang will then be buried in his hometown of Kim Son District, Ninh Binh Province. The ceremonies will be shown on national television.
