Back Arts & Culture » [Podcast] Renovation Generation: Suboi's Hard-Earned Wisdom

For Renovation Generation’s latest installment, the Hanoi-based team took a trip down to Saigon to speak with the country’s "Queen of Hip-Hop", Suboi.

Much of the star’s conversation with interviewer Fabiola Buchele centered around her personal growth. Though she’s only 26, Suboi exhibits wisdom beyond her years, discussing how she learned to own her status as a woman in a male-dominated industry and as a representative of Vietnam on the world stage.

Still, Suboi admits, being one of the country’s only female rappers can be lonely.

“I don’t want to be the only one,” she told Renovation Generation, “I wanna be the number one. To get there, you’ve got to beat somebody.”

The 10-minute podcast covers a range of topics, from Suboi’s musical inspirations to her entertainment company to her attitude toward Saigon’s rapid growth. Have a listen below or on the Renovation Generation website.
