Back Arts & Culture » Rihanna's Latest Fashion Project Features Designs by Local Designer Cong Tri

Nguyen Cong Tri's latest collection reportedly impressed Barbadian singer Rihanna so much that she commissioned him to produce three outfits tailored to her size.

One of the designs, a white gown with oversized sleeves, was used in a photoshoot for Rihanna's latest collaboration with shoemaker Manolo Blahnik, which appeared on her Instagram account last weekend.

According to ELLE Vietnam, Rihanna's team contacted Tri directly after seeing the “Em Hoa” collection on Vogue's website. The designer worked quickly and finished the order in just four days before sending it to New York.

Speaking to the news source, Tri shared that he was glad to receive this "special order," and that he was "looking forward to seeing Rihanna in his designs."

Having been pursuing fashion since the 1990s, the 47-year-old Vietnamese designer was lauded as the "forefront of the Vietnamese Haute Couture industry" by the fashion website Not Just A Label, and was among 100 designers selected to join the 2014 Origin, Passion and Belief exhibition in Italy. His “Em Hoa” collection walked the stage of Tokyo Fashion Week in March this year, with monochrome outfits featuring exquisite floral embellishments.
