Da Nang's world famous bridge is back in the proverbial spotlight. After winning an international engineering award back in May, the central city’s Dragon Bridge was recently honored at the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD)’s 2014 International Lighting Design Awards.
Tuoi Tre reports that the lighting design the bridge received “Special Citation” from the U.S.-based organization.
“According to the award organizer, the design, by local architect Tran Van Thanh and ASA Lighting Design Studios in Ho Chi Minh City, is honored for a whimsical, well-crafted multimedia experience which communicates the national and religious identity,” wrote the paper.
This marks the first time a Vietnamese design has been recognized by the IALD, “considered the Academy Awards in the lighting designing sector.”
There were over 200 international designs this year, mostly from the U.S. and Europe. Vietnam, Japan and China were the only Asian representatives.
The bridge, with over 2,500 LED lights made it to the final round of the UK’s major FX Design Awards in 2013 and Lighting Design Awards in 2014.
The lights may be amazing and all, but the fire breathing dragon heads are still our favorite visual trick the bridge has up its sleeve.
