More than 20 students from HCMC’s Hoa Sen University made a giant, map-shaped pizza of Vietnam to support the country’s sovereignty in the backdrop of the dispute with China over their controversial oilrig.
The students, who are enrolled in the university’s restaurant management program, travelled around the country to collect regional ingredients including “bang” leaves from Binh Ba Island and yellow-finned tuna from the waters around Trung Sa, reported Tuoi Tre.
Shrimps, chicken and mushrooms were used to create the map’s borders and details while the tuna was added to create the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos.
"The pizza is indicative of our wish to join Vietnamese people’s protest against the illegal deployment of a giant oil rig by China in Vietnamese waters in the East Vietnam Sea early this month.
The work, which takes us only two weeks to turn ideas into reality, is a great combination of our major and patriotism,” said Nguyen Dinh Long, who came up with the idea and is the head of the organizing board.
The controversial oilrig has inflamed tensions between Vietnam and China over the past month, resulting in frayed diplomatic relations, sunken ships and self-immolation.
