Doctors in central Vietnam treated a 10-year-old boy in Tam Tri Da Nang General Hospital earlier this week for emitting “unpleasant odors” from his nose, according to Tuoi Tre.
In addition to smelly nostrils, the boy had complained about chronic irritation for 5 years and had visited many doctors who were unable to treat the problem.
After being examined at Tam Tri Da Nang hospital, doctors found and removed a flat shaped battery lodged in Huynh Quoc Cuong’s nasal cavity.
The boy’s family sad that they first noticed foul smells 4 or 5 years ago and Cuong admitted that, “he once played with some batteries and one of them might have entered his nostril in some way without his knowledge.”
Acid leaked from the battery as it deteriorated, causing inflammation and risk of necrosis, according to the boy’s doctor.
Lesson of the story: If you notice unpleasant odors coming from your nose, check it for batteries. Yowza.
