According to statistics collected by the World Health Organization in 2011, Vietnamese are the least overweight in SE Asia.
The data reveals that Vietnam’s obesity rate stood at 10.2% while Malaysia led the way at a downright scary 44.2%.
However, we imagine that the rate of obesity in Vietnam has seen an uptick over the past 3 years with the explosion of fast food chains in the country.
Late last year, Nguyen Anh Tuan of the Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Health said that the rate of obesity in some schools had reached up to 20%. This would place Vietnam’s young population in the middle of right in the middle of the pack when it comes to national obesity rates in SE Asia.
