The funds will go toward healthcare workers who get infected with the novel coronavirus.

The Saigon Times reports that AIA Vietnam, a life insurance company, has committed to offering VND23 billion (US$996,000) in financial assistance to doctors and medical workers fighting the COVID-19 pandemic in the country. The company signed an agreement with the Ministry of Health on August 13, reports Zing.

Accordingly, any healthcare worker who is diagnosed with the disease will receive a one-time grant of VND10 million, while the family of any medical worker who passes away from COVID-19 will be entitled to VND100 million from AIA.

"Thousands of heroes in white uniforms are on the frontlines, constantly fighting this devastating virus. This sacrifice cannot be measured. With this decision to provide financial aid, we want to express our appreciation and companionship to all those doctors and medical staff, with the hope of working together in solidarity in the fight against the pandemic," Wayne Besant, CEO of AIA Vietnam, told the news source.

The news sources adds that the financial assistance program has been extended to December 31, while it is open to all doctors, nurses, technicians, pharmacists, healthcare volunteers and other hospital employees who have a labor contract with hospitals or other medical facilities that have signed on.

As of Tuesday morning, Vietnam's COVID-19 death toll stood at 25, while the national case total is 983, with 480 active cases.
