Pop duo The Chainsmokers will perform in Saigon on September 14 as a part of the Asian leg of their “Memories…Do not open” world tour.
The duo's US tour launched on April 13 in support of their debut album of the same name, which was released that month. The Asian portion of the tour will take the Grammy Award-winning duo to Thailand, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, India, Singapore and the Philippines, in addition to Vietnam, according to their website.
The Chainsmokers, founded in 2012, gained notoriety in the Electronic Dance Music (EDM) world with the release of their hit single '#Selfie' in 2014.
Their 2016 single 'Don’t Let Me Down' further catapulted them into the public eye, winning them a Grammy for Best Dance Recording, as reported by VietnamNet.
Saigon-based organizer Pulse Active is promoting the event, which will take place at the Sala Residential area in District 2. Tickets range from VND750,000 (US$33) to VND1.6 million (US$70).
In the past, music fans in Vietnam have had to travel to adjacent countries such as Thailand and Singapore in order to see their favorite international music performers. Vietnam, however, is quickly emerging as a stop for international tours.
Pulse Active was also the mind behind Ariana Grande's now-cancelled concert that was supposed to take place on August 23 in Saigon's Quan Khu 7 Stadium. However, the pop sensation abruptly announced that she wasn't able to perform due to health issues.
South Korean guitar legend Sung-ha Jung will also perform in Vietnam, with shows in Hanoi on August 26, and in Saigon the following day.
