Cargo Bar continues to raise the bar for live music in the city with the launch of Saigon International Music Week later this month.
The Week, a collaboration between Saigon-based promoters Loud Minority and Saigon Sound System, will kick-off with British indie rockers, The Vaccines, on November 26. They will be followed by local acts Black Infinity / White Noiz; American cult band, The Lemonheads and Australian psychedelic/dance pioneers, Jagwar Ma.
Saigon International Music Week may not be on the same playing field as established events such as Clockenflap in Hong Kong, Laneway in Singapore or Urbanscapes in Malaysia, just yet. But, by bagging acts like The Vaccines and Jagwar Ma in its’ first year, this could well be the seed that grows into a widely-recognized event throughout SE Asia.
Loud Minority promoter, Damian Kilroy, feels it is vital to include local talent in this landmark event:
“It’s important to us that we promote local artists and help develop live music. Hopefully, that mix of people being exposed to international bands and local artists being a part of it, will provide some inspiration for youngsters here. That has to be of benefit to live music in Vietnam.”
