Saigon is welcoming sponsored advertisements on the Nguyen Hue flower street this coming Lunar New Year.
For the first time, signboards bearing the names of corporate sponsors will be exhibited among the decorative flowers, according to VnExpress. In previous years, the news outlet reports, such signage was only displayed at either end of the display, as well as on streetlights.
In addition, municipal authorities will close either side of Nguyen Hue to traffic, allowing pedestrians to wander up and down the street over the holiday.
The opening ceremony of the flower street will commence at 7pm on January 25, while the exhibition will run through the holiday until 10pm on January 31, reports Tuoi Tre.
For decades, it has been a local tradition for Saigoneers to visit Nguyen Hue for a day of picture-taking among the flowers. Last April, the local government spent a staggering US$19.7 million on the grandiose display, according to VnExpress.
Tet 2017 will usher in the Year of the Rooster. Though some are anticipating a 10-day Tet holiday, the break is more likely to be a seven-day one.
