Vietnam Railways, which operates all trains in the country, has partnered with military-run Viettel to install WIFI systems on a number of trains before Tet and plans to expand the service to the entire system in the future, according to Thanh Nien.
Nguyen Van Binh, Deputy General Director of Hanoi Railway Passenger Transport Company said that the first round of upgrades would be completed by January 20.
Binh added that the service, which will be provided free of charge, is meant to make railway services more competitive.
Given that the north-south train takes about 30 hours to get from HCMC to Hanoi, free WIFI is a welcome addition.
Perhaps the broken internet cable will be fixed by the time the service launches.
