BackStories » Vietnam » Vietnam Skincare Clinic Goes Viral for Using Logo of Fictional Zombie-Making Company

A skincare clinic in Saigon has been the butt of Internet mockery recently after eagle-eyed netizens discovered that their official logo is a carbon copy of a fictional zombie-creating company in the video game franchise Resident Evil.

According to Tuoi Tre, the District 10-based Medcare Skin Center’s logo bears a striking resemblance to that of Umbrella Corporation, a shady pharmaceutical company in the survival-horror game Resident Evil. The enterprise is infamous in the game's plot for its secret research into zombification by infecting subjects with a deadly virus.

Local online forums spotted the similarity first and quickly churned out a plethora of zombie-themed memes. The news eventually got picked up by international gaming news outlets such as Kotaku and Geek Culture.

Medcare Skin Center, however, appeared oblivious to the mishap and only wrote on their Facebook page that they were unaware that the logo design was stolen from the Japanese game.

“Logo design is completely out of our specialty and was consulted and completed for us by a hired third-party,” the post reads. “We are very surprised to receive such feedback from the community.”

Vietnam’s cybersphere is currently on the hunt for the designer behind the hilarious brand materials. It might take the unfortunate skincare center a while to deal with the fallout of the design hiccup as the Umbrella Corporation logo is ubiquitous on their website and even embroidered onto staff uniforms.

At the time of writing, the notorious logo is still present on the clinic’s official website, but not its Facebook page.
