Two well-known former soccer players from Great Britain have been hired by a new soccer academy in northern Vietnam in an attempt to create the country's first batch of World Cup-caliber footballers.

Tuoi Tre reports that Ryan Giggs, a Welsh player who spent his entire storied career at Manchester United, recently signed on to be Director of Football at the Vingroup-owned PVF Football Academy in Hung Yen province.

The academy opened on Monday, and Giggs will run its training programs for two years. He will supervise the techniques, physique and nutrition of players attending the school.

Paul Scholes, a Brit who also played for Manchester United, has also come on board at PVF as a technical consultant.

The news source shares that at a press conference on Monday, Giggs said the academy's facilities are world-class, while adding that his 25 years at Man U and two years as a young talent trainer give him the experience needed to succeed at PVF.

He also revealed his ambitious dream that Vietnam will qualify for the 2030 World Cup. The country has never played in the most prestigious international soccer tournament.
