A Vietnamese runner won the 100 kilometer category of the Vietnam Mountain Marathon in Sapa for the first time last weekend.

Tuoi Tre reports that Tran Duy Quang, who finished fourth in the same race last year, crossed the finish line in 13 hours and 17 minutes, beating 111 other racers. The competition began at 10pm last Friday, and participants had 24 hours to cover 100 kilometers of mountainous terrain around the popular highlands town in northern Vietnam.

"I had aimed for the 15-hour mark, but was luckily able to outdo myself today," Quang told the news source. "I'm exhausted after running for over 13 hours straight, but my feeling now is amazing."

The Vietnam Mountain Marathon (VMM) was first held in Sapa in 2013, and it has grown in popularity ever since. This year's event, which featured distances of 10, 21, 42, 70 and 100 kilometers, attracted roughly 2,500 runners from 50 countries. The event happened from September 22 to 24.
